Frank Ocean attends 2017 Met Gala, takes photos for ‘Vogue’

Frank Ocean attending the 2017 Met Gala this year with a Contax T3 35mm in tow. He spent a majority of the evening documented the attendees. But first, he slid through the red carpet rather quickly, using Rihanna as a distraction.

Given that his latest song is called “Lens,” it is fitting that the musician Frank Ocean should have spent much of the Met Gala gazing through a Contax T3 35mm at guests like Gigi Hadid, Hailey Baldwin, Zoë Kravitz, and Jaden Smith (plus his freshly shorn dreadlocks). He is old school that way, preferring the authentic analog grain of film over digital immediacy. The results are as sharp as the Balmain ensemble he sported all night—and while no one wants him to give up the day job, Ocean’s images suggest a whole new evening job could be his for the taking. The 2017 Met Gala Special Edition goes on newsstands May 10th.

Vogue has published his photo diary, which features many notable faces in extravagant attire. Ocean wore an outfit he jokingly described as “the valet wears Prada.” The theme of this year’s event was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”

Frank Ocean attends this year’s Costume Institute Benefit in NYC with a Contax T3 35mm in tow. He spent the majority of the evening documenting the attendees. He dressed in a white dress shirt and black pants from Balmain. The theme of this year’s event was “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons.”

Prior to the set at the Met Gala party, he had not taken the stage since the Odd Future Carnival last fall. Ocean wore a Givenchy tuxedo with a white jacket, black pants, and a black bowtie. The theme of this year’s event was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.”

Ocean was spotted hanging out with Madonna, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and other celebrities during the Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. He wore a Givenchy tuxedo and studded snakeskin shoes to the haute couture festival. The theme of this year’s event was “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”
