Frank Ocean paired his black suit and tie with Vans Sk8-Hi sneakers at the 2014 Time 100 Gala at Lincoln Center in New York City on April 29. Time magazine first invited Ocean to the ball last year, after naming him as one of the world’s most influential people in its annual Time 100 list. This year, he once again brought his mother, Katonya Breaux, as his plus-one to the event.

At the 2013 Time 100 Gala, an MTV News reporter asked Frank Ocean about his creative process and his next music project. Ocean revealed that he’s listening to the 1960s boy bands The Beatles and The Beach Boys while working on the follow-up to his 2012 record, Channel Orange. He also alluded to a couple other artistic projects currently in development.
