Listen to Frank Ocean’s new song “Voodoo”

Frank Ocean - OFWG - KTA

Tumblr: @frankocean.

Frank Ocean has returned with a new single, titled “Voodoo,” posted on his Tumblr page. The short and sober track is influenced by his upbringing in New Orleans—a city with a rich history of Voodoo, an African diasporic religion. Ocean alludes to the hardships he endured in his youth, growing up without his father. The closing lines interpolate the classic African-American spiritual “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” first published in 1927. Check out the new track below.

Update 2012-07-10:

Frank Ocean sampled “Voodoo” in the closing track of his debut studio album, Channel Orange, titled “End.” The sample plays in the background as Ocean and a woman reenact a scene from the 2006 film ATL.

Update: “End” by Frank Ocean (Channel Orange, 2012-07-10).

“Voodoo” lyrics:

Darker times
They’re telling boulder-heavy lies
Looks like all we’ve got is each other
The truth is obsolete
Remember when all I had was my mother
She didn’t compromise
She could recognize
Voodoo
Our daughters and our sons
Are just candles in the sun
Voodoo
Don’t let him see divide
Don’t you let her see divide
Voodoo

She’s got the whole wide world in her juicy fruit
He’s got the whole wide world in his pants
He wrapped the whole wide world in a wedding band
Then put the whole wide world on her hands
She’s got the whole wide world in her hands
He’s got the whole wide world in his hands, in his hands
