Frank Ocean shares “Thinking About You” music video
The direction team behind the High 5 Collective (H5C) has released a music video for Frank Ocean’s song “Thinking About You.” Ocean plays a doctor in the short film; his scenes were shot in Hollywood, California, near the historic Knickerbocker Hotel.
Ocean first posted “Thinking About You” on Tumblr on July 28, 2011, a day before Bridgett Kelly debuted her cover. He deleted the track shortly after it was posted. Later, on September 15, H5C made the music video public on Vimeo. Ocean shared a link to it on Tumblr, with a caption referencing a four-legged cast member:
The horse’s name is Pearl.
In the music video, Ocean is a physician caring for a hospitalized girl; scenes of him sitting at her bedside, talking to her stoic younger brother, are interspersed throughout. The surreal events that unfold in the video seem to originate in the boy’s mind as he listens to Ocean’s story. The short film begins with the injured girl being dragged on a stretcher by a pioneer man (presumably her father) towards a tipi set up in the distance; he collapses from exhaustion near the entrance of the tent. An indigenous man and woman emerge, and the man drags the girl into his tipi before greeting the father, who is terrified by the man’s ghostly appearance. Suddenly, an unidentified flying object is seen falling from the sky. The father quickly steals a horse tied up beside the tipi and rides off to find the fallen object. In the meantime, the indigenous couple attempts to treat the ailing girl using shamanic medicine and rituals. The father eventually reaches the UFO and picks up its contents: a glowing orb. He returns to the tipi and hands off the object to the girl, whose life is spared by its otherworldly powers. The video concludes at the hospital, with the boy finding a ring tucked in his sister’s hand.
Notably, the video’s music features additional background vocals compared to the original track posted on Tumblr. Check it out below.
