A$AP Rocky says Frank Ocean is about to drop, praises him and Tyler, The Creator
During an interview on The Ebro Show, A$AP Rocky says he heard that Frank Ocean is about to release new music. He also speaks highly of Ocean, Tyler The Creator, and other artists for making him “fall in love with music.” Rocky appeared on the Apple Music program to promote his latest album, Don’t Be Dumb.
In his chat with Ebro Darden, Rocky voiced his excitement about a lineup of artists returning soon—including J. Cole, Baby Keem, Don Toliver, Tyler The Creator, and Frank Ocean—adding that he hopes what he heard about Ocean is true. Who gave him this info is unclear; nevertheless, as one of Ocean’s collaborators, Rocky’s comments have created a buzz online.
Around the 12-minute mark, during an exchange about his recent history and the events that delayed the follow-up to his 2018 album Testing, Rocky explains why he feels the timing of his new release, Don’t Be Dumb, is exactly right:
Rocky: [Dropping my album] right now is a perfect time because a lot of the greats—a lot of the eclectic taste makers are starting to release again. Like, I’m looking forward to J. Cole. I’m looking forward to Baby Keem. I’m looking forward—Geese just dropped last year. We got so much dope shit that’s just starting to happen right now. Don Toliver about to drop some crazy shit. Tyler, The Creator’s stupid ass about to drop some crazy shit—[Ebro: Again; he just went crazy.]—again; like he ain’t just go crazy three times. It’s beautiful.
I heard Frank about to drop some shit—I hope that’s true—we waiting on him.
I think it’s a beautiful time, and I’m missing—I’m not mentioning so many other eclectic, taste-maker motherfuckers that made me fall in love with music sonically. Not to marginalize it or generalize it, or put it in a genre, but for me, sometimes, music is music. It’s all about the emotion that it evokes. If you want to feel better, you throw on a certain artist, a certain song. You want it—you going through a breakup and you want to cope with that, you throw on a certain song. It don’t matter if it’s from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘90s, now.
