Promo video from ‘Blonde/Boys Don’t Cry’ Chicago pop-up shop appears online

Eight months after Frank Ocean debuted Boys Don’t Cry and Blonde, another promotional video for the magazine and album has surfaced online. The one-minute clip captures fans picking up free copies of the art book and CD at a pop-up shop in Chicago, Illinois, on August 20, 2016. It is the third hype video to emerge on Vimeo since Ocean released the sister projects, following the ‘haircut’ and ‘interview’ promos in February 2017.

The Chicago-based production company Square56 created the one-minute feature, which includes the working title “blond test 2.0” in its opening frames. It was shot at the Chicago-Main Newsstand in Evanston, a suburb of the Windy City and one of four pop-up shop locations worldwide. Ocean announced the release at 5 AM (CST) on his website, boysdontcry.co, with a flyer listing the addresses of each shop. The Chicago pop-up opened with a line of fans that stretched around the block, as seen in the promo.
